The Occidental And Oriental Historical Backgrounds

The occidental and oriental historical backgrounds are the result of the interaction between different cultures. Culture allows human beings to learn how to think by themselves. Culture gives the answers of three questions: Who am I? (E.g. Personnal and collective identity), where do I come from? (E.g. My roots, personnal/family legacy) and Where am I going? (E.g. Future is a mix between what I am now and what I’ve been through). Popular belief does not understand how much people depend on culture as a core of their lives. We can find two different points of view concerning the utility of a cross-cultural approach. Let’s tackle the everlasting debate between universal human nature and cultural specificity. Universal human nature basically stands that the mind works alone thanks to universal and natural principles, that is to say the culture does not have any impact. Supporters of this view consider that the human beings are not different from one another. For instance, D.E. Brown found hundreds of different human universal standards across all cultures (music, language, rites of passage†¦) The second position describes the human being as unique because of the intermeshing relationship between minds and cultures.
